đď¸ Best Time to Visit
Brisbane is a year-round city but the sweet spot is April to October: warm, dry, blue-sky days in the low-to-mid 20s°C and cool evenings, ideal for outdoor dining and clean footage. November to March is summer: hot, humid, and prone to afternoon storms, with January and February the wettest and stickiest. If you shoot in summer, do outdoor spots (Streets Beach, lookouts, Eat Street) early morning or after 5 PM to dodge the heat and harsh light. Whale season and the best lookout clarity skew to winter. Eat Street runs Friday to Sunday year-round, so build any trip around those three nights if it's on your list.
đ Getting Around
The river is your friend. The free CityHopper ferry loops the inner-city terminals and the CityCat runs the length of the river for around 50c with a Translink card on current fares, which is the cheapest and most scenic way to move between South Bank, the CBD, New Farm, and Eat Street. For the southside spots (Sunnybank, Springwood, Underwood, Hawthorne) and Mt Coot-tha and Lone Pine, you'll want a car or rideshare, those aren't ferry-reachable. The Airtrain links Brisbane Airport straight to the CBD and South Bank. Parking at Howard Smith Wharves is expensive (over $40 for a few hours), so arrive by ferry or on foot there. Buses cover Caxton Street and the Valley well.
đ˝ď¸ What to Eat & Drink
Brisbane's strength is its global diversity, which is exactly Jackson's content. Hit the southside for some of Australia's best Asian food (Korean BBQ buffets, Japanese value sets, sashimi in Sunnybank). Chase bottomless brunch and all-you-can-eat tacos at Comuna and Mucho Mexicano, the highest-performing format. Don't skip Moreton Bay bugs (a local crustacean, do them on a Felons pizza or at a seafood spot), fresh-shucked oysters, and the Queensland mango in season. For drinks: local craft beer (Felons, BrewDog), frozen margaritas at El Camino, and Gelato Messina's rotating weekly specials for dessert.
𤍠Local Secrets
The CityHopper ferry is free and tourists constantly miss it, it's the best free skyline tour in the city. Mt Coot-tha and Kangaroo Point at sunset beat any paid lookout for the skyline shot. The galleries (GOMA and QAG) are free, including most exhibitions. Eat Street is cash-friendly for the entry fee, so bring coins. For value content, the southside (Sunnybank, Springwood) consistently out-delivers the CBD on portion-per-dollar. And the Gelato Messina Valley branch has shorter lines than the South Brisbane one for the same product.
đ Packing Essentials
Brisbane sun is strong, so sunscreen, a cap, and sunglasses go in the bag year-round, even winter. Bring swimmers for Streets Beach and hotel pools. A light rain layer for summer afternoon storms. Comfortable walking shoes for the riverwalks and clifftop paths. A portable charger for long shoot days (Lone Pine even rents them). A refillable water bottle, there are refill stations through South Bank and the riverwalks. And stretchy clothing for the buffet and bottomless days, you'll need it.
đ Booking Ahead
Book these in advance: Story Bridge Adventure Climb (limited slots, especially Twilight), all bottomless brunch and AYCE sessions at Comuna, Mucho Mexicano, and Hwaro92 (they sell out and you must confirm session times), Gerard's Bistro and Black Hide (small, popular, limited nights), and banquet bookings at Greca, Yamas, and Ahmet's. Lone Pine is fine to book day-of but check show times. Eat Street needs no booking but plan around its Friday-to-Sunday-only hours. Restaurants closed early in the week to watch: Fishboi (Mon/Tue), Black Hide (Mon/Tue), Julius (Mon), Hello Please (Mon/Sun), Goukai (Tue).
đ° Money & Budget
Currency is the Australian dollar (AUD). Card and contactless are accepted almost everywhere, including most market stalls, but carry a little cash for Eat Street's entry fee. Tipping is not expected in Australia, service staff are paid a proper wage, though rounding up or 10% for exceptional service is appreciated, never required. Rough costs: a good coffee $5-6, a casual meal $20-35, a mid-range dinner $40-70 a head, a buffet or bottomless session $50-90, a luxury steak or tasting menu $100+. Budget hotels run around $190 a night, luxury $350+. The southside delivers the best portion-per-dollar in the city.
đ Respect & Safety
Brisbane is a relaxed, safe city, but the sun and heat are the real risk, hydrate, seek shade midday in summer, and respect storm warnings. The Brisbane River has currents, so swim at the patrolled Streets Beach lagoon, not the river itself. When filming in restaurants, ask staff before recording, most Brisbane venues are friendly about content creators but a quick heads-up goes a long way (and can get you better access). Acknowledge that Brisbane sits on the land of the Yuggera and Turrbal peoples, the Powerhouse and many sites note this. Drink responsibly on the bottomless sessions, and arrange rideshare home from the southside and Valley nights rather than driving after drinks.
