Sossusvlei is often mistaken for the Deadvlei nearby. The Sossusvlei can be filled with water during the rainy season which is an absolute breathtaking experience! The different shades of orange are super stunning and an indication of a high concentration of iron, after being exposed to the process of oxidation over many years. The presence of numerous vleis, or clay pans, give the area its character and beauty. Sossusvlei is also famous for its wildlife, most notably the endemic Namib Desert Beetle which can collect water from the morning fog with bumps on its back. There is also free roaming Oryx around, beautiful picture opportunities!
