The Orange River is the longest river in South Africa, and it runs along the borders of Lesotho, Namibia, and South Africa. Rising at over 3,000 meters in the Maloti Mountains of Lesotho, the Orange River flows westward for 2,432 kilometers until emptying into the Atlantic Ocean between Oranjemund in Namibia and Alexander Bay in South Africa. Along its way, the majestic river winds by some of the most stunning landscapes in Southern Africa; from the majestic Drakensberg mountains to the arid Kalahari desert and the vibrant basin of Namaqualand. It provides much-needed water for irrigation and hydroelectricity to the region, possesses numerous tributaries, and culminates at the famous Augrabies Falls, where the deep green waters plunge 122 meters before meeting their final destination.
