For one of the best views in the region, you have to take a ride on the Beppu Ropeway. This ten-minute gondola trip takes you up the slopes of Mount Tsurumi, offering incredible panoramic views of Beppu city and the bay below. Once you're at the top, you'll find easy walking paths that lead to various observation decks and small shrines; the main summit is just a scenic 15-minute stroll from the station. The landscape is stunning no matter the season, from cherry blossoms in the spring to fiery autumn leaves and even delicate ice-covered trees in winter.
