Sayulita, Mexico

Not all ATMs in Sayulita are created equal - and after plenty of time here, we've narrowed it down to two we trust most. Note: We have talked to several other locals who shared stories, and ALL recommended these to us.

1. Outside La Cubeta (main plaza) This is our go-to. La Cubeta is one of our favorite tiendas in town, it's right in the heart of everything, and the machine has always been reliable for us. If you pop in, say hello to the owner - we call her Tia, but her name is Doña Carmen! Be sure to tell her the Gandaras, and specifically "el licenciado" (which is what she calls Enzo), sent you.

2. Inside Don Pedro's restaurant (near the beach) A great alternative if you're already spending the day by the water. The ATM is tucked inside the restaurant, making it a convenient stop before or after a meal.

** One thing to keep in mind: both machines can run low or go offline during busy weekends and holidays. It's just part of being in a small beach town - nothing to stress about, but worth knowing ahead of time.

A few quick tips before withdrawing money in Sayulita:

  • Always choose to be charged in pesos, not your home currency, when the ATM asks.

  • Avoid withdrawing money late at night and in large sums if possible.

  • It’s smart to carry some cash in Sayulita since many smaller shops, taco stands, and beach vendors are cash only.

  • If one ATM is out of service or empty, don’t panic, it happens often here, especially on weekends and holidays. Having a small cash reserve is a good idea!
