An enchanting forest along the Golden Circle route that most travelers have no idea about. A stroll in this forest is a nice break from the crowds at the more well-known attractions in the area. This national forest is the largest in south Iceland. There are plenty of hiking paths and walking areas that are also accessible for wheelchairs. Haukadalur church is one of the oldest wooden churches in the country, with parts of it dating back to 1842.

Along with many varieties of birds present here, foxes, minks and mice live in the forest, and trout are in the warmer parts of the river.

You can reach the forest by driving up Biskupstungnabraut to Geysir, go past the hotel and then turn left up to the east.
