It's recommended to use a four-wheel drive vehicle with high clearance to get up the road to the trailhead. The road is fairly rough and there are several creek crossings which may be deep in late spring. The trail is worth the long drive. There are several pretty creek crossings on the way up, with gorgeous wildflowers. The path is easy to follow and well-flagged. It's steep for most of the way and you need to be constantly aware of your footing. Once out of the trees, it does get a little more even. It's a bit of a grind while you get through the trees but the view from the ridge above the hut is spectacular. Hiking pole poles, waterproof boots, and preparation for all kinds of weather is recommended. Snow may linger until July, and from October on it is best to bring snowshoes. Bugs also love to frequent this area and grizzly bears have been seen roaming around, so come prepared with bug and bear spray.
