If you are only going to Hawaii once and want to get a crazy perspective then take a trip with Rainbow helicopters. I recommend doing it around sunrise so you get a mix of light and blue water (too early and the water is dark blue but if it's right at high sun then you have bright blue water and no depth in your photos). I estimate an hour drive time to the location and back and then about an hour and a half all in once you're there to get briefed and everything.

I highly recommend doing doors off, photography special, and give them the points you want to see. If you don't, they just blow by everything and then turn around and fly back. I'd focus on Sacred Falls, Kokohead, Makapu, Stairway to heaven, and the sand bars.
