Where to Eat in Atlanta with Kids: A Mom's Honest List
Forget the chain restaurants. Here are the Atlanta spots my kids actually beg to go back to — plus where to grab the best Southern brunch.
Kiersten DeCook
Atlanta, United States
Hi friends, Kiersten here! Atlanta's food scene is INCREDIBLE, but eating out with three kids can either be a delight or a disaster. After hundreds of restaurant tries, here are my tested-and-approved family spots — organized by what kind of meal you need.
QUICK CASUAL (FOR HANGRY KID EMERGENCIES):
• Ponce City Market food hall — Hop's Chicken, Bellina Alimentari pasta, Spiller Park coffee for mom. Something for everyone.
• Fellini's Pizza (multiple locations) — by the slice, picnic-table seating, kids run around free.
• The Varsity downtown — a true Atlanta classic. Order a Frosted Orange and onion rings. Ages 4+ love the loud, fast vibe.
• Chick-fil-A's College Park flagship near the airport has a HUGE indoor playground and is open early.
SIT-DOWN BUT KID-FRIENDLY:
• Mary Mac's Tea Room — proper Southern food, sweet tea, and complimentary "potlikker" soup. The waitstaff are sweet to kids.
• Souper Jenny — local mini-chain with grilled cheese, soups, and amazing salads for adults.
• Sublime Doughnuts — yes, doughnuts for breakfast counts. Get there early before they sell out.
• Atlanta Breakfast Club — chicken & waffles you'll dream about. Worth the wait.
BRUNCH SPOTS (KIDS WELCOME):
• Highland Bakery — Inman Park location has outdoor seating
• Buttermilk Kitchen — biscuit perfection
• Home Grown — quirky, casual, great hash browns
BBQ:
• Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q — kids menu, brisket sandwiches, and a back patio
• Heirloom Market BBQ — Korean-Southern fusion, mind-blowing
SPECIAL OCCASION (FOR DATE NIGHT WITH SITTER):
• Bacchanalia, Staplehouse, Bones — these are GROWNUP places. Hire a sitter; you'll thank me.
MAMA HACKS:
• Most Atlanta restaurants don't take reservations for parties under 6 \u2014 use Yelp or Resy and walk in early (5pm) with kids.
• Look for restaurants with outdoor patios \u2014 less stress when kids get loud.
• Ponce City Market food hall is the holy grail when you can't agree on what to eat. Everyone gets what they want.
• Pack a "kid kit" with crayons, a small sticker book, and a couple of small cars. Saves the meal every time.
