Makaino Farm Resort might be the most underrated kid spot in the whole Mt. Fuji area. It's a working farm + glamping resort + petting zoo + mini golf course + pizza-making workshop — all with Mt. Fuji rising in the background. Our kids spent SIX HOURS here and we still didn't see everything. If you want a Mt. Fuji day where the kids are the priority, this is IT.
What makes it special: You can interact with sheep, goats, alpacas, horses, rabbits, and pigs (and bottle-feed baby goats!). They have farm activities like butter-making, pizza from scratch, and ice-cream making (book in advance). The glamping cabins are gorgeous — you literally fall asleep with Fuji-san outside your window. There's also a sledding hill that's open year-round (no snow needed).
Kid tips:
• Best for ages 1-12. Toddlers plus little kids LOVE the petting zoo, sheep show, and grass sledding.
• BUY tickets ONLINE in advance during peak seasons — they cap visitor numbers.
• Stroller-friendly across most of the farm — carrier easier on the sledding hill.
• Bring CHANGE OF CLOTHES — mud, animals, ice cream, you name it.
• Pizza-making and butter-making slots fill up FAST — reserve at entry.
• The Sheep Show happens twice daily — check the schedule on arrival.
• Plenty of family bathrooms with changing tables.
• Easiest with a CAR — about 30 min from Lake Kawaguchi.
• Pro tip: stay overnight in a glamping cabin to skip morning crowds.
We pair this farm visit with Lake Kawaguchi, Oishi Park, Shiraito Falls, and a stay at Kawaguchiko Urban Resort Villa for a perfect 2-3 day Mt. Fuji escape with kids.
