OK confession: this was at the TOP of my kids' Tokyo bucket list and we were all obsessed. Mipig Cafe is a real, ethical micro pig cafe right off Takeshita Street in Harajuku. You sit on the floor, the pigs come waddle over, climb in your lap, and fall asleep snoring on you. It's somehow even cuter than it sounds.

What makes it special: This isn't a sketchy animal cafe — mipig actually breeds and rehomes the pigs as pets, so they're well-socialized and clearly love people. You get a 30-minute slot in a clean, calm room with about 6-8 pigs roaming free. Pay extra for a cup of pellets and they SWARM you (best 5 minutes of any kid's life). It's a sensory delight — they're warm, soft, and SO chill.

Kid tips:

• Best for ages 2+. Toddlers plus little kids do GREAT here — the pigs are calm and the rules are gentle.

• RESERVE ONLINE in advance — walk-ins are nearly impossible. Slots sell out 2-4 weeks ahead.

• Standard slot is around ¥2,200/person, kids slightly less. Includes a drink.

• You sit on the floor on cushions — wear something washable.

• No flash photos and you can't pick the pigs up — let them come to you.

• Bathrooms in the building, but tiny. Use them before the slot starts.

• 1-min walk from Harajuku Station (JR Yamanote) — right at the entrance to Takeshita Street.

• Pro tip: ask for the pellets cup at the START of your session, not the end — the pigs are most active at first.
