Oishi Park is THE spot for that perfect Mt. Fuji photo with seasonal flower fields in the foreground — you've definitely seen it on Instagram. The park sits on the northern shore of Lake Kawaguchi looking straight at Mt. Fuji, with rotating flower beds (lavender in summer, kochia in fall, tulips in spring) carpeting the foreground. It's free, easy with kids, and worth the trip even if it's cloudy.
What makes it special: This is one of the BEST viewpoints in the entire Five Lakes area for a postcard-perfect Fuji photo. The flower fields change throughout the year so it's never the same visit twice. The Hanaterasu shopping/cafe area at the entrance has cute Fuji-themed soft serve, jam tastings, and souvenirs. Easy paved paths make it stroller-friendly.
Kid tips:
• FREE entry, free parking (or 5-min walk from Lake bus stop).
• Best for ALL ages — toddlers plus little kids love running through the flower paths.
• Stroller-friendly! Wide paved paths.
• Go EARLY (before 9am) for the clearest Fuji views — clouds usually move in by midday.
• Kochia season (mid-September to mid-October) turns the hills BRIGHT red — absolutely stunning.
• Lavender season (mid-June to mid-July) is the most famous — expect crowds.
• Bathrooms and food (lavender soft serve!) at the visitor center.
• Take the Kawaguchiko Sightseeing Bus (red line) from Kawaguchiko Station, about 25 min.
We pair this stop with the Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway, Lake Kawaguchi cruise, and a stay at Kawaguchiko Urban Resort Villa for a perfect Fuji-area day with kids.
