Asakusa Hanayashiki is the OLDEST amusement park in Japan (opened 1853!) and tucked into a tiny city block right behind Sensō-ji. The rides are perfectly sized for little kids — think tea cups, a panda carousel, a tiny roller coaster (also Japan's oldest), and a Sky Tower observatory. It's the rare amusement park where the WHOLE family can ride almost everything together.
What makes it special: This place has a vintage, retro Japanese charm you won't find anywhere else — some rides date back to the 1950s and look like it. The footprint is TINY (you can see the whole park in 2 hours), which is genuinely a feature when you're traveling with little kids who tire out fast. And the location — sandwiched between Sensō-ji and old Asakusa streets — is unbeatable.
Kid tips:
• Best for ages 2-10. Toddlers plus little kids will RIDE EVERYTHING with a parent. Older kids may find it a bit slow.
• The Roller Coaster has a 120cm minimum, but most kid rides have no minimum or 90cm.
• Buy the FREE PASS (¥2,800 adult / ¥2,500 kid) if doing more than 5 rides — way cheaper than per-ride tickets.
• Go on a WEEKDAY if you can — weekends get crowded fast.
• Stroller-friendly, lots of parking spots near rides.
• Snack stalls inside but limited — there's better food on Nakamise Street outside.
• Bathrooms with changing tables on site.
• 5-min walk from Sensō-ji — easy combo for an Asakusa half-day.
We pair this with Sensō-ji and Nakamise Street for the perfect Asakusa day with toddlers plus little kids.
