Ueno Park is what I'd call "Tokyo's Central Park if Central Park also had a zoo, four world-class museums, a giant pond with swan boats, and the city's best cherry blossoms." Easily a full day with kids, even more if you spread it out.

What makes it special: this is the rare big-city spot where you can let kids RUN. Massive grass lawns, wide stroller-friendly paths, shaded benches, food carts, vending machines everywhere. The park itself contains: Ueno Zoo (cheap and great), the Tokyo National Museum (only the right wing is kid-friendly, but it's worth a peek), Shinobazu Pond (paddle swan boats!), and the National Museum of Nature and Science (DINOSAURS — huge hit). In sakura season it's the most famous viewing spot in Tokyo — over 1,000 cherry trees line the main path.

Kid tips:

• Best for ALL ages. Stroller-friendly throughout. Multiple playgrounds tucked around.

• If you only have time for ONE thing inside the park: Ueno Zoo (giant pandas + petting zone) for younger kids, or the Nature & Science Museum (T-Rex skeleton, hands-on space exhibits) for ages 5+.

• The Shinobazu Pond pedal swan boats are SO worth it — cheap (~700 yen for 30 min), shady, and a guaranteed hit.

• LOTS of food options: konbini at every entrance, food carts on weekends, family restaurants right outside Ueno Station.

• Best entry: Ueno Station (JR or Tokyo Metro) — zero walking from train to park.

• Sakura season (late March-early April): go EARLY (8am) to actually see the trees without crowds. Otherwise it's standing-room-only.

• Lots of clean public bathrooms with kid toilets and family rooms.
