I had to skip this iconic hike due to poor weather – but of course, I don’t want to leave it out of this guide!
It’s especially magical at sunrise and sunset, so I highly recommend camping near the viewpoint for a peaceful, crowd-free experience. Check out the guided tour via the link I provided!
You can start the hike from three different parking areas, which affect both distance and elevation:
From P1 Tyssedal: the full route – longest and most demanding
From P2 Skjeggedal: shorter, but still a serious hike
From P3 Mågelitopp: shortest option, but note:
🚐 Only vehicles under 5.20 m are allowed at P2 and P3
Between the parking levels, shuttle buses operate regularly – tickets can and should be booked online in advance.
🗓️ The trail is open for self-guided hikes between June and September. Outside of this period, only guided tours are allowed due to snow and changing weather conditions.
⚠️ This is a demanding mountain hike – don’t underestimate it. You’ll need solid fitness, experience, and proper gear to safely enjoy one of Norway’s most stunning viewpoints.
