Syri i Kaltër (the Blue Eye) is one of the most famous natural springs in Albania. It’s a deep underwater spring where crystal-clear water bubbles up with an intense turquoise-blue color, creating a striking circular “eye” in the forest.
The surrounding area is a protected natural park with walking paths, shaded forest, and viewpoints over the spring. The water is extremely cold year-round, and the main spring area is strictly not allowed for swimming due to its depth and strong underwater pressure.
To reach the spring itself, you'll take a pleasant, roughly 30-minute walk along a paved path from the main entrance, which just builds the anticipation for the incredible sight that awaits you.
My honest opinion: this is a visually stunning but very touristy stop. The color of the water is genuinely impressive, especially in good light, but in summer it can feel overcrowded and commercialized. It’s best visited early in the morning or outside peak season if you want a calmer experience.
Natural karst spring (~50m+ deep)
Swimming strictly forbidden at main spring
Can be very crowded in summer
Entrance fee: 200 Lek
Cold water year-round (~10°C)
