Aoufous is a small oasis town in Morocco’s Ziz Valley, located between Errachidia and Erfoud on the route toward the Sahara Desert. Unlike the more famous tourist stops in southern Morocco, Aoufous feels quiet, local and deeply connected to traditional desert life.
The landscape is what makes the area special: endless palm groves stretching through the valley, surrounded by dry desert hills and old earthen villages that almost blend into the landscape itself. The contrast between green oasis vegetation and the surrounding desert creates one of the most beautiful scenery changes in southern Morocco.
The atmosphere here is slow and authentic. Rather than attractions or organized tourism, the experience is about driving through the valley, stopping at panoramic viewpoints and experiencing a quieter side of Morocco that many travelers simply pass by on the way to Merzouga.
Aoufous is also known for its date palms, producing some of the region’s best dates, which are sold in local markets and roadside stands.
