The Great Market Hall, built in 1897, is a historic indoor market located at the end of the famous Vámház körút, near the Liberty Bridge. The market spans three floors:

  • Ground floor: fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, and local produce.

  • First floor: artisan shops, traditional Hungarian goods, and souvenirs.

  • Basement: specialty shops, small eateries, and wine shops.

You can try Hungarian paprika, salami, lángos, sausages, pastries and other local delicacies. The market is a hub of local life and tourist activity, where you can both shop and experience authentic Hungarian culture.

Honest tip:
It can get crowded, especially on weekends. Go early in the morning for the freshest produce and a less hectic experience. The market is perfect for sampling local street food, but prices in the tourist-heavy areas may be slightly higher.
