Welcome to the edge of the Sahara!

Merzouga is a small desert village in southeastern Morocco, located right on the edge of the famous Erg Chebbi dunes - one of the most iconic parts of the Sahara Desert. It serves as the main starting point for desert experiences, including overnight desert camps and sunrise or sunset dune excursions.

The landscape here is dramatic and instantly recognizable: huge golden sand dunes stretching across the horizon, constantly shifting with the wind and glowing in different shades of orange and red throughout the day.

Despite its remote location, the area is well adapted for tourism, with many desert lodges, camps and local guides offering experiences.

  • Long travel distance from major cities

  • Best visited for 1–2 nights minimum

  • Very hot in summer, cold at night
