Himara Castle sits above the town of Himarë on a hill overlooking the Ionian Sea and the Albanian Riviera. It’s an ancient fortress with layers of history dating back to antiquity and later Byzantine and medieval periods, making it one of the oldest defensive sites in southern Albania.

Inside the castle area you’ll find ruins, scattered stone structures, parts of old walls, and even a few still-inhabited buildings. There are also small churches and paths that connect different sections of the hilltop complex. The whole area feels more like a lived-in historic hill village than a fully preserved museum site.

The biggest highlight is definitely the view - you can see the coastline, nearby beaches, and the surrounding mountains.
