Gjirokastër Castle is a stone fortress rising above the city of Gjirokastër. It offers wide views over the valley, the old town and the surrounding mountains.

The castle has a long history, with roots going back to medieval times and later expansions during the Ottoman period. Inside, you’ll find courtyards, defensive walls, tunnels, old military structures and even a museum with artifacts and weapons.

My honest opinion: this is a must-visit in southern Albania. It’s not just a viewpoint — it feels like a full historic complex where you can wander for quite a while. The combination of architecture, scale, and views makes it one of the most impressive castles in the country.
