The Old Town of Berat is what makes the city truly special. Made up mainly of the Mangalem and Gorica quarters, this area is famous for its white Ottoman houses stacked along the hillside - often called the “city of a thousand windows”.

Walking through the old town means wandering narrow cobblestone streets, passing traditional houses, small cafés and hidden viewpoints. It feels very atmospheric, especially early in the morning or in the evening when it’s quieter and the light is softer.

What makes it unique is that it’s still lived in - it’s not a museum, but a functioning neighborhood where locals go about their daily life.
