Kasbah des Oudaias is one of Rabat’s most iconic and atmospheric historic districts, perched above the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the Bouregreg River. Originally built as a fortified kasbah centuries ago, the area today feels like a peaceful maze of narrow blue-and-white streets, Andalusian-inspired houses and hidden corners overlooking the sea.
Compared to the chaotic medinas of Marrakech or Fes, the atmosphere here is calm, clean and almost village-like. Walking through the small alleyways feels slow and relaxed, with cats sleeping in the sun, locals chatting outside homes and occasional ocean views appearing between the buildings.
One of the highlights is the Andalusian Garden inside the kasbah, a quiet green space filled with palms, fountains and shaded walkways. Nearby viewpoints also offer stunning panoramas over the Atlantic Ocean, Rabat Beach and the neighboring city of Salé.
