Step into a living piece of history at what is often called the most beautiful café in the world. As you settle in beneath the glittering chandeliers and ornate frescoes, you're not just having coffee; you're partaking in a grand Budapest tradition. The opulent, Italian Renaissance-style interior is the main draw, creating an unforgettable backdrop for enjoying a classic Hungarian cake and coffee. It's an experience of pure gilded-age grandeur that feels like stepping back in time.

Originally opened in 1894 and frequented by writers, artists, and intellectuals, it remains a living part of the city’s café culture. During the day you can enjoy coffee, pastries, and elegant breakfast or brunch classics, while throughout the afternoon and evening the menu expands to include Austro‑Hungarian favorites like beef goulash, paprikash, and sumptuous desserts such as Dobos and Eszterházy cake.

Reservations: Daytime seating (07:00–18:00) is first‑come, first‑served; evening reservations possible for dinner after 18:00.

Tips: Expect crowds and sometimes queues due to its fame; arriving early in the morning can make seating easier.

Honest review: It’s a bit pricey, and while the food isn’t the absolute best in Budapest, the breathtaking interiors and historic atmosphere make the visit totally worth it — perfect for photos and soaking in the old-world charm.
