The Cascades d’Ourika, also known as the Setti Fatma waterfalls, are one of the most popular hiking experiences near Marrakech. The trail starts in the village of Setti Fatma in the Ourika Valley and follows the river upstream into the Atlas Mountains.
The hike begins very easy: a well-worn path along the river with cafés, small stalls and local guides at the start. Within about 20–40 minutes, you reach the first waterfall, which is the most accessible and therefore also the busiest section. From here, the trail becomes more natural and gradually more challenging, with rocky steps, small climbs and river crossings as you go deeper into the valley.
The scenery is a mix of green valley walls, flowing water and mountain views. It feels refreshing and very close to nature, but it is also quite touristy and developed in the lower sections. If you continue higher up, the crowds thin out and the landscape becomes more rewarding and quiet.
Because it’s so close to Marrakech, this hike is extremely popular as a day trip, especially on weekends, so timing has a big impact on the experience.
First waterfall: 20-40 min walk
Full hike: 2–3 hours (depending on how far you go)
Very busy on weekends/holidays
Local guides available but not required
Wear proper shoes (slippery rocks)
