The Hassan Tower is one of Rabat’s most famous landmarks and a powerful symbol of Moroccan history. It was originally intended to be the minaret of a massive mosque commissioned in the 12th century by Sultan Yacoub al-Mansour. However, construction was never completed, leaving the tower standing alongside rows of striking stone pillars that mark the unfinished prayer hall.

The result is a very photogenic site: a towering sandstone minaret surrounded by open-air ruins, wide marble flooring, and an expansive esplanade that feels both monumental and peaceful. The symmetry and scale give the place a strong sense of ambition and history.

Directly opposite the tower lies the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, which adds even more architectural and cultural significance to the site. Together, the complex represents one of the most important historical landmarks in Morocco.
