Lake Bovilla (Bovilla Reservoir)

Directions

Lake Bovilla is one of the most impressive natural spots near Tirana, known for its intense turquoise water winding through steep, rugged cliffs. Even though it’s an artificial reservoir, the landscape feels wild and untouched, especially once you get closer to the lake and leave the city behind.

The main highlight is the viewpoint above the reservoir, which you reach via a short but slightly steep hike. From the top, you get a wide panoramic view over the lake’s curves, the rocky mountains, and the surrounding valleys - it’s one of those places that looks even better in real life than in photos.

The atmosphere is quiet and raw outside peak times, but it has become quite popular, so the main viewpoint can feel busy, especially on weekends or in summer.

  • Hike: 15–30 minutes to viewpoint

  • No swimming (drinking water reservoir)

Road Conditions:

  • Last part of the drive is unpaved gravel road

  • Expect potholes, dust, and uneven terrain

  • Small cars can make it, but drive carefully

  • After rain: can get muddy and worse
