Boulders Beach has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. One of my very first memories of the ocean is splashing in its calm, turquoise waters as a tiny kid, the giant granite boulders towering around me like gentle guardians. I grew up watching the famous African penguins waddle past sunbathers, their curious eyes meeting mine as if we were old friends. Today, the charm of Boulders extends beyond the sand — a stroll up from the beach brings you to quaint local shops, perfect for browsing, and a lovely restaurant where you can enjoy fresh seafood with a view of the bay.
For visitors, entry to Boulders Beach is managed by SANParks, with a small conservation fee (around R45 for South African residents and R190 for international visitors, check current rates before you go). Children under 12 pay a reduced fee, and it’s a wonderfully safe, family-friendly beach thanks to its sheltered coves and shallow water. It’s open year-round, but mornings are best for calmer conditions and fewer crowds. Whether you come for the penguins, the warm sand, or the charm of the surrounding village, Boulders is a place where magic meets the sea.
