Tucked away in Grand Teton National Park, Lake of the Crags is a hidden gem boasting stunning views of snow-capped peaks. This moderate to difficult day hike starts at Jenny Lake (once you get off the boat) or String Lake and winds through meadows, waterfalls, and rocky terrain, culminating in the serene alpine lake at 9,565 feet. Keep an eye out for cairns and follow the water sources to navigate the trail, and don't forget your bear spray for this wild adventure!
The unmarked trail head, combined with an intense elevation gain, makes this spot one of the best kept secrets in the park. After you get off the Jenny Lake boat, follow signs for String Lake, and about 100 feet after the second bridge crossing take the unmarked path on your left. A small circle of rocks marks the beginning of the trail (easy to miss.)
You'll arrive at Ramshead Lake first, so follow the cairns further to get to your final destination! From the boat dock it's about 3 miles up with 3,000 ft. of elevation gain.
