Zenkoji Temple in Nagano is a super important and popular temple in Japan. It's been around since the 7th century and houses the first Buddhist statue ever brought into Japan. The original statue is kept hidden, but a copy is shown every six years. You can explore the main hall, check out the underground passage for the "key to paradise," and admire the intricate statues at the Zenkoji History Museum. Don't miss the Sanmon Gate and the Jizo Bodhisattva statues outside.
If you have the chance, you can stay at traditional temple lodgings for a unique experience!
