Fagradalsfjall is a volcano located on the Reykjanes Peninsula in Iceland, about 40 kilometers from Reykjavík that was dormant until an eruption started in March 2021, marking the first known eruption on the peninsula in about 800 years. Since then, there have been ten eruptions (and counting!) with the most recent in December of 2024.

While the Fagradalsfjall eruption was open to the public for hiking, the more recent eruptions have been closed to tourists, but past eruption sites can still be accessed via hiking trails. The area changes constantly, so make sure to check the status of the trails before hiking at visitrekjanes.is.
