Himeji Castle is one of the most magnificent castles in Japan, and considered by many to be the finest example of prototypical Japanese castle architecture. Located in the Hyogo Prefecture, the majestic complex stands as a remnant from the feudal period, boasting 83 rooms with advanced defensive systems, a radiant white exterior, and a towering 46.4m height. A popular UNESCO World Heritage Site since its inscription in 1993, it still remains intact despite its centuries-old history and the bombing of Himeji during World War 2. After five years of renovations in 2015, visitors now get to enjoy its splendor, with otherworldly features such as inner moats, an expansive courtyard, and a mesmerizing three-story keep. It truly is a marvel built by history, a must-visit location for any fan of Medieval Japan.
