Gunnuhver is a hot spring near Reykjanes Lighthouse in the southern tip of the Reykjanes Peninsula, Iceland. Although it may look like any other hot spring, Gunnuhver springs from fascinating folklore 400 years ago. It is said that an old woman named Gunna lived in this area and was accused of being a witch due to a mysterious pot she kept at home. After Gunna was unable to pay rent, the landlord took away her pot driving her to starvation. Soon after attending Gunna's funeral, the landlord died mysteriously under unknown circumstances. From that point on, the hot spring has been known as Gunnuhver or Gunn's hot spring. Visiting this area is a surreal experience with volcanic mud pools and steam vents all around you. It is the biggest mud pool in Iceland, with boiling water and steam rising up and creating an incredible atmosphere. If you're planning a trip to Iceland, make sure you take the time to see Gunnuhver for a thrilling and unforgettable experience!
