Skútustaðagígar, or "craters of steam," are unique formations found in the Lake Mývatn area of North Iceland. Formed from a volcanic eruption that caused steam to erupt, these crater-like structures were formed when heat caused the swampy wetlands of the region to create a pseudo-crater. Here, visitors can enjoy spectacular views while indulging in popular activities such as birdwatching. With its proximity to other attractions like the Dimmuborgir lava fortress and the luxurious Mývatn Nature Baths, along with its family-friendly atmosphere, Skútustaðagígar offers a truly remarkable experience for travelers!

From Route 1, whether coming from the east or the west, take Route 848. There is a large car park along Route 848. The site is easily accessible winter and summer.
