Rauðhólar, the “Red Hills” are a group of ancient pseudocraters located on the southeastern edge of Reykjavík in Iceland. These craters, which are estimated to be 5200 years old, display a stunning dark maroon colour that gives them their iconic name. With over eighty craters at one point, Rauðhólar have gained protection from interference since 1961 and offer guests an insight into the geological makeup of this region. Explore these incredible natural phenomena on a self-drive tour or other guided trips offered throughout the area. Visit the nearby attractions such as Hólmsheiði, Elliðavatn and Heiðmörk for a truly unique experience.
