Seljavallalaug Swimming Pool hot spring is a hidden gem located in the mountains of South Iceland. It is the oldest swimming pool in the country, having been built in 1923 by a local man for the purpose of teaching locals how to swim. Tourists travel from all over to take part in the unique experience that the spring has to offer. The two mile roundtrip hike is easy, with flat terrain and picturesque views along the way. However, it’s important to keep in mind that the changing rooms are quite disgusting due to tourists leaving their trash behind. Furthermore, the water temperature is pleasant but warm at best, and filled with algae. Despite this, Seljavallalaug is still worth a visit. It’s free, and with stunning mountain backdrops, it’s the perfect spot for an unforgettable experience.
