Shady Beach sits on Pulau Mamutik, the smallest island in Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park, just off Kota Kinabalu. True to its name, it’s a laid-back stretch of sand backed by trees that offer plenty of natural shade — perfect for escaping the midday sun. The calm, clear waters make it great for swimming and snorkeling, with coral and small fish just a few meters from shore.

You can reach the island by boat from Jesselton Point in about 15 minutes. Bring snacks and water, as facilities are limited, and stay for sunset if you can — the views back toward the city are beautiful.
