If you are really passionate about art and history, you must visit it. However, if you are in Rome for the first time (and planning to come back in the future), I would keep this for the second time you visit. Rome has a lot you can see, and you can easily lose half a day / a day here, and since it might be super crowded the experience wouldn't even be that enjoyable.
