The Pilatus is super easy accessible from Lucerne and 100% worth to go up there. If you have the time I also recommend to stay at the Pilatus Kulm Hotel! It's nice to witness sunset and sunrise without having the rush of getting the last funicular down :)

The world's steepest rack railway runs from Alpnachstad with a maximum gradient of 48 per cent through forests, meadows and rock faces. On the north side, a gondola and aerial cableway connects Kriens with Pilatus Kulm. I love to take the funicular and really enjoy the panorama. If you are fit and have time I can recommend to do the hike from Alpnachstadt or one of the stops further up and then get towards Pilatus Kulm (takes up to 3 hours to hike). the funicular reaches the top within 40 minutes.

To Pilatus Esel (the viewpoint on the photos) it is only a 5-10 minutes walk and easy accessible. However, be careful if you visit in winter since it can still be covered in snow
