Milan’s public transport network is extensive, efficient and one of the easiest ways to explore the city and reach Olympic venues, neighborhoods and major attractions. The system is run by ATM (Azienda Trasporti Milanesi) and includes metro lines (M1 red, M2 green, M3 yellow, M4 blue, M5 purple), a dense network of buses, trams and trolleybuses, and the suburban rail system including the Passante and S lines. All these services connect central Milan with surrounding areas and important locations like Rho Fiera and Assago.

Tickets & fares:

  • Single ticket – €2.20: valid for 90 minutes on metro, buses, trams and suburban trains within the Mi1–Mi3 fare zone.

  • 24-hour pass – €7.60: unlimited travel for a full day.

  • 3-day pass – €15.50: unlimited travel for 3 consecutive days.

  • 10-ticket carnet – €19.50: ten individual journeys (one person per ticket).

Tickets can be bought at metro station machines, authorized retailers or via the ATM official app and must be validated at the start of each journey.

During the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics (Feb 5–22), metro services on all lines in the urban area will be extended until around 2:00 AM, and the night bus network will run every night to support late travel after events. This makes it easier to explore the city and return from Olympic venues even late in the evening.
