It has undergone several restorations and reconstructions over the years, with its current appearance dating back to the 12th century. The basilica features a mix of brickwork, stone, and plaster, with intricate decorations on its exterior and a stunning interior with vaulted ceilings, mosaics, and historical relics. Legend has it that a nearby marble column bears marks from the Devil's horns after failing to tempt St. Ambrose.
