Helgustadir mine, located in Iceland, was a source of transparent calcite known as Iceland spar from the 17th to the 20th century. The crystals from this mine are famous for their exceptional clarity, hence the name "Iceland spar." Unfortunately, due to its popularity among tourists, there have been issues with theft of crystals from the nature reserve, despite it being forbidden. This has led to concerns about the protection of this unique geological site.
