🛶 Best for: Full-day paddling, river fun, swimming spots, first-timers & seasoned kayakers
🏞️ Known for: Exceptionally clear water, salmon runs, gentle rapids, beautiful scenery
💡 Tip: Bring a picnic + water shoes, and rent a waterproof barrel from Cime Aventure
Another absolute highlight of our Gaspésie road trip was spending a full day kayaking down the Rivière Bonaventure. The water here is unbelievably clear — cold, turquoise, and so transparent that you can see the rocks (and often salmon!) right below your boat.
We rented everything from Cime Aventure, who make the whole experience super easy. You can choose between single or double kayaks, or canoes depending on how sporty you want the day to be. They also equip you with life jackets, paddles, and you can rent a waterproof barrel to keep your things dry — one per group is usually enough.
The only strict rule: you must wear water shoes. If you forget them, you’ll have to rent a pair on-site.
And since you’ll be on the river for hours, bring a picnic, snacks, and plenty of water. You’ll be grateful for it.
Throughout the route, you’ll cross gentle rapids, long calm sections, and see fishermen quietly waiting for salmon and trout — this river is famous for its fish population. (If you’re into fishing, remember you need a provincial fishing licence and must follow signs about private land and restrictions.)
My favourite part of the day was definitely the last stop, “Stop Malin” — a perfect section to swim, float around, and play in the rapids one last time before finishing the journey. The water is chilly but refreshing, and the atmosphere is always fun and relaxed.
A full day outside, stunning nature, and one of the best ways to enjoy Gaspésie’s landscapes — truly a must-do!
