⚠️ Tip: Parking reservation required — book well in advance, especially in summer

The Indian Head hike is one of the most rewarding adventures I’ve done in the Adirondacks, but it takes a bit of planning. You must reserve a parking spot ahead of time, as access is limited and fills up fast on weekends and during peak season. The trail starts near a golf course, which you’ll cross before heading deep into the forest. Most of the hike follows wide forest paths, with smaller side trails leading to highlights like Rainbow Falls and the final viewpoint. The payoff at the top is incredible: a dramatic view over the fjord-like valley, especially magical if you’re lucky enough to have it to yourself like we did. Plan a few hours, bring plenty of water, snacks, and a picnic, and don’t hesitate to cool off in the ponds along the way on warm days.
