Røren, is a long, flat ridge on the northern tip of Moskenesøy in the Lofoten Islands. While it lacks the dramatic peaks of other hikes in the area, it offers a gentle ascent and stunning views of Yttersand Beach, the turquoise waters of the Norwegian Sea, and the distant mountains of Flakstadøy. With its relatively easy trail and breathtaking panoramas, Røren is an excellent choice for those seeking a short, scenic hike without too much exertion.

Starting point: From the E10, head toward the village of Fredvang. After crossing the bridges onto Moskenesøy, bypass the left turn to Fredvang and continue straight. Drive past the “Frankenstein” barn, an unmistakable local landmark, and turn right toward Yttersand. At the end of the road, you’ll find a parking area where the trail begins (Google Maps coordinates 68.099063, 13.134635).

Route: Starting from the parking area, head through the gate and follow the narrow trail to the left. The path gradually climbs as it traces the mountainside, offering an easy and scenic start to the hike. At around 270 meters, the ridge levels off, opening up stunning views of Yttersand Beach and the surrounding coastline. The trail continues northward, rolling over a series of small hills, each presenting a unique angle of the picturesque landscape. The ridge eventually ends at the northern tip of Moskenesøy, where expansive views of the rugged coastline and distant peaks await.

Difficulty according to Norwegian standards: Blue = Suitable for moderately trained hikers with basic hiking knowledge and some experience in the terrain.

Distance: ≈ 5 km
Elevation gain: ≈ 310 meters up & down
