From lush forest trails to wide moorlands and rugged mountain ridges, the journey provides an impressive mix of terrain. At the summit, the view stretches across Austvågøya, the surrounding fjords, and the dramatic mountain ridges, making the effort well worth it.

Starting point: Drive along the E10 from Leknes towards Kabelvåg and find after around 30 km the small parking lot on the right side, next to the Lyngedalsvatnet (Google Maps coordinates: 68.258918, 14.043106).

Route: Behind the farmhouse, a narrow trail winds its way into the underbrush. The path is faint and sparsely marked with small red plastic stakes, so careful attention is needed—especially when vegetation is thick. The first section is a steep climb through dense forest, eventually reaching a plateau at around 200 meters above sea level: the Lyngedalsheia. This open moorland, covered in low vegetation, provides your first rewarding views northward, including the island of Gimsøya. The climb becomes increasingly rugged, with sections of loose rock and boulder fields scattered along the mountain flanks. In a few unavoidable spots, you’ll need to use your hands to climb over rocky passages, adding a slight scramble to the adventure. The summit of Håtinden rewards your effort with a breathtaking 360-degree panorama.
