Singapore offers a variety of efficient and convenient transportation options. The most popular and recommended method is the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system, which is a subway network that covers most of the island. Once you're in a specific area, walking is also a great way to explore. Other options include buses, taxis, and ride-hailing apps like Grab and Gojek.

MRT (Mass Rapid Transit):

The MRT is a well-developed subway system with six lines connecting major areas of Singapore. Trains run frequently, typically every 3-5 minutes, making it a fast and efficient way to travel. MRT fares are generally affordable, especially for longer distances. If you plan to use public transport frequently, consider purchasing a Singapore Tourist Pass for unlimited rides on the MRT and buses.

To use the MRT in Singapore, you'll need an EZ-Link card or a Singapore Tourist Pass, or you can use a contactless bank card, credit card, or mobile payment (like Google Pay or Apple Pay). Simply tap your card or device at the entry and exit points of the MRT stations. The system is efficient, with trains arriving frequently (every few minutes during peak hours and every 5-7 minutes during off-peak hours).

Buses:

Public buses cover virtually every corner of Singapore, making them a convenient option for reaching destinations not directly served by the MRT. Bus fares are typically the cheapest mode of transportation in Singapore and run frequently, especially during peak hours.

Taxis and Ride-Hailing Apps:

Taxis are readily available, especially at designated taxi stands. Grab and Gojek are popular ride-hailing apps in Singapore, offering a convenient alternative to taxis - very similar to Uber or Lyft- download the app and request a ride. You can add a form of payment in the app or click pay with cash.

Other Options:

Walking: Singapore is a very walkable city, especially in popular tourist areas like the city center.

Cycling: Cycling is also an option, with dedicated bike lanes and park connectors making it safe and enjoyable.

Helpful apps to download while in Singapore:

Citymapper: This app is helpful for planning your routes and navigating the public transport system.

Grab or Gojek: You can use the app to book rides, with options ranging from standard taxis to larger vehicles and even carpooling. Both are a popular and convenient way to travel in Singapore, especially when public transport is not ideal.

Google Maps: Reliable for navigation, including public transport directions.

Burpple, Chope, Eatigo: Useful for restaurant reservations and finding dining deals.

MyTransport.SG: The official Singapore government app for public transport information.

Parking.sg: For finding and paying for parking.
