Can I bring USD or Euros?
Currently the exchange rate for 1 USD is 40 Turkish Lira. There are plenty of places to exchange at the airport or you can use an ATM in Turkey as well. The bills we used the most were the 200, which is roughly 5 USD. We used these for tips to our drivers, tour guides, and restaurants.
The best currency to have in Turkey is the Turkish Lira (TRY), as it is the official currency and widely accepted for all transactions. While some places, especially in tourist areas, may accept euros or US dollars, using the local currency will typically provide better exchange rates.
If you are visiting the Grand Bazaar or buying souvenirs in general, you will want to have cash, especially Turkish Lira on hand, but they will take USD or Euros as well. A lot of restaurants accept credit card, but they don't add a service charge to the bill, tips have to be in cash. We usually did 10%, sometimes 15% to our tour guides.
