Museo Nacional de Costa Rica offers up some fine examples of Costa Rican history, ranging from exhibits of pre-Colombian pieces from ongoing digs, to relics from the colony and the early republic. The museum itself is located inside the old Bellavista Fortress, which historically served as the army headquarters and saw fierce fighting in the 1948 civil war.
