Kuilau Ridge Trailhead on Kauai’s east side is a short, family-friendly ridge hike of roughly 2 to 3 miles round trip with a steady but gentle climb and great views into the valley and surrounding peaks. The trail is mostly dirt and gravel and gets muddy after rain, so wear grippy shoes and bring water, insect repellent, and sun protection; there are limited facilities at the trailhead so plan accordingly. Parking is small and fills early on weekends, cell service can be spotty, and the well-maintained path is suitable for casual hikers, trail runners, and leashed dogs.
